Roselyn MonroyoMei and Zena Demapan scored twin goals apiece to lift MP United-1 to a 6-5 win over Paire in Division B of the 2012 NMIFA Women's Futsal Fall League last Monday night at the TSL Sports Complex.
Zena and Mei drilled MP United's last two goals for enough cushion, as they survived Guinevere Borja's bid to bail Paire out of trouble.
With the win, MP United-1 kept the third spot in the eight-team field, improving to a 7-2-3 win-draw-loss record and staying close behind division leader IFC-1 (9-2-1) and Matansa (8-1-3). Paire is two notches below MP United-1's standings with its 5-3-4 card.
It was a sorry loss for Paire, which lead at halftime, 4-2, with Borja already recording a hat-trick just 25 minutes into the match.
Borja scored her three straight goals in a span of seven minutes, nailing her first in the 11th, the second in the 15th, and the third in the 18th. Paire's other goal in the opening half came from Kate Campbell in the 10th.
Mei Demapan sliced Paire's lead to two 1-3, when she got her first goal in the 13th minute before Zena Demapan moved MP United-1 closer with a goal in the 17th, 2-3. However, Borja made it another two-point lead when she completed a hat-trick one minute later.
Tish Wang's goal, just into the first minute of second half, cut Paire's advantage to one again and three minutes later the game was even after Michiko Tenorio also made it to the scoreboard. Zena Demapan then earned her second goal in the 33rd to put MP United-1 in the lead for the first time, 5-4, while Mei Demapan made it a 6-4 lead four minutes later.
After being cold in the first few minutes of the final half, Borja broke Paire's silence, but her goal in the 38th minute was not enough to prevent MP United from stealing the win.
Matansa 4, IFC-2 2Matansa stayed in the hunt for the division title after edging IFC-2 in the second game.
Bernadette Horey canned a pair of goals to give Matansa its eighth win and drop IFC-1 to a dismal 1-2-9 mark.
Horey found the back of the net early, scoring in the fifth minute and Matansa went up, 2-0, off Maile Aldrich's goal three minutes later. Vanessa Gramlich then put IFC-2 in the board in the 10th minute, but Jovelyn Epperson's goal in the 12th brought Matansa's lead back to two.
In the second half, it was IFC-2's turn to score first with Goldie Ague getting her first goal just 23 seconds into the final frame. However, that was not enough to spark an IFC-2 rally, while Horey notched one more goal in the 39th minute for good measure.
Shirley's 4, Tan Holdings 4The third game of the night ended in a draw.
Mary Kay Alferos canned three goals for Tan Holdings, including the equalizer in the 38th minute. Chloe Salvosa recorded the other goal for Tan Holdings, which remained in sixth place in the team standings with its 3-4-5 slate.
Elaine Enriquez also had a hat-trick for Shirley's, scoring the team's first three goals (first minute, 20th, and 34th), while Mia Carreon's goal in the 37th minute put her team on top before Alferos tied the match anew one minute later. Shirley's now has a 6-4-2 record for fourth place in the team standings.
