Monday, 26 November 2012

Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Referees Committee, which met under the chairmanship of Thailand’s Dato’ Worawi Makudi on Monday, approved the list of AFC referees for next year and made important decisions to maintain a high level of refereeing in continental competitions.

AFC Acting President Zhang Jilong opened the meeting and highlighted the role of referees in the game while praising the standard of refereeing in Asia.

“The role of a referee is not only to implement the laws of the game and maintain fair play on the field but also to show the image of referees and the confederation to the world,” he said.

“There are a lot of things to review for the committee and take steps for the future development of referees and I am confident that the members will take the right path.”

Dato’ Worawi appreciated the efforts of the members throughout the year.

“We have passed through many big tournaments since we last met and I would like to thank all the members for their efforts,” he said.

“Asian referees showed their skills at the Olympics and other FIFA competitions this year and I would like to compliment them on their superb performance.”

The committee also approved the list of referee instructors, assessors, futsal instructors and assessors and fitness instructors for next year. The criteria for withdrawal of referees and implementation of Pilot Member Association Project under strategic plan for referees’ development were also approved.

The members also agreed on a selection plan for participants of the AFC Project Future Referees Course.

The committee also discussed the implementation of additional assistant referees and goalline technology in future AFC competitions.

All decisions of this committee need to be ratified by the AFC Executive Committee to take effect.
