Grammar team takes out Australasian futsal tournament

20th Nov 2012

TOOWOOMBA Grammar School can lay claim to having one of the best junior futsal teams in Australasia.

The school's under 16 squad took out its age group at the Australasian Futsal Championships in Brisbane earlier this month.

Grammar was second after the round-robin stage and went on to win the final with an emphatic 9-3 victory over New South Wales opponent Tuggerah High School.

From that successful team, Mitchell Hunter was selected in the under 16 All Star team after impressing throughout the competition.

Two players from the Grammar under 15 team also earned All Star selection in their age group.

Jack Campbell and Ryan Ensor were picked in the under 15 All Star team after helping Grammar to the knock-out semi-finals.

Grammar topped their pool after the round-robin stage before losing 3-2 to eventual champion Gympie in the semi-finals.

The Grammar open boys team also progressed to the semi-finals but were unable to progress to the decider.

They were knocked out by eventual open champion St Peter Clavier College.

The Grammar squads qualified for the tournament by finishing in the top four teams at the Queensland Championships.
