MIDDLESBROUGH Futsal Club host Manchester on Sunday knowing a win will
put them right amongst the top contenders in the FA National Futsal League North.
After defeat in their opening league game, Boro looked to have got their season on track with wins over Hull and Liverpool. However, an unexpected loss to Leeds & Wakefield leaves the team in need of a positive result this weekend.
Manchester though, are the reigning regional champions and boast a
formidable squad including England international Stuart Cook.
However, Boro look set to be stronger than recent weeks themselves, as they welcome back Mikey Roberts and Theo Furness for the first time this season, both of whom played a major role in last season's journey to the national finals.
Boro enjoyed a good pair of results against their visitors last term winning 5-0 in Manchester and only being denied victory in the dying seconds at Thornaby Pavilion.
However, this season Manchester have enjoyed an unbeaten start to their campaign and coach Damon Shaw knows his side will have to be at their best in order to get a result on Sunday.
"Manchester are the best team in the North over the last couple of seasons and will be coming to Thornaby in confident mood. The games are always close but we’ll need a top class performance to make up for the defeat away in Leeds last time out."
“They’ve only lost three games in the last three seasons. It’s a fantastic record. They are favourites for the league title and favourites for Sunday, but we’ve never let that get in our way. We’ll put up a good fight and hopefully we can nick something.”
Despite welcoming back some of their top players, Boro aren't without their selection concerns on Sunday. Captain Robbie Bettson will miss out as he undergoes an operation on a persistent knee problem.
Thad Taylor has returned to the USA for a wedding, whilst Ernesto Casañ remains a long term absentee.
Albert Torres is also a doubt to play against his old club and a decision on the Spaniard's availability will be left until the last minute.
Middlesbrough vs Manchester kicks off at 2pm on Sunday at Thornaby Pavilion. Tickets are priced at £4 adults and £2 under-18s.
