R SportRussia Reaches Futsal World Cup Quarters12.11.2012MOSCOW, November 12 (R-Sport) - Russia reached the quarterfinals of the Futsal World Cup on Monday with a 3-0 with over the Czech Republic in the last 16.
Goals from the Brazilian-born trio of Eder Lima, Pula and Sirilo secured victory Russia, who have yet to concede a single goal.
“We played with quality and earned this victory,” Russia coach Sergei Skorovich said on the Russian Futsal Association website.
“Our goal is to win every match. Of course it’s good when you manage to do that without conceding a single goal. It’s the fruits of the work that we’ve done and that we do every day.”
Russia will face Spain in the quarterfinals after the 2008 finalists saw off hosts Thailand 7-1 on Sunday.
Elsewhere, reigning champions Brazil booked their place in the quarterfinals in style after beating Panama 16-0 to secure a meeting with Argentina, who resisted a late comeback as they beat Serbia 2-1.
Italy beat Egypt 5-1 and now face Portugal, who defeated Paraguay 4-1 on Sunday.
Sunday also decided the composition of the first quarterfinal after Colombia downed Iran 2-1 and Ukraine beat Japan 6-3 in the last 16.
