FIFA.com (CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO AS WELL!)Futsal behind Filipino barsFriday 19 October 2012In Makati City Jail in the Philippines everyday life is tough. The inmates go through the same daily routine while waiting for trial or serving their time.
As such there are not too many enjoyable moments behind the institution's bars, but every so often a game of futsal in the prison yard breaks the monotony. The prisoners are allowed to swap their uniforms for football shirts, and the gesture, when combined with liberating feeling the sport provides, fills the participants with renewed optimism.
The matches give the young men the opportunity to experience something approaching normality once again. Inmates become team-mates as futsal takes centre-stage. Even though most of the players have never heard of futsal or participated in team sports before, the activity forms a community out of individuals who will carry a love for futsal for the rest of their lives.
Sit back and enjoy this video from FIFA TV and FIFA.com.
