Futsal glory for Perth

Oct 19 2012

by Gordon Bannerman

The Perth Youth Futsal sessions continue tonight at Bells Sports Centre for players aged 14 to 17 years old, and on Friday October 26 at the North Inch Community Campus for players aged eight to 13 years old.

There are also youth Futsal sessions being held at the North Inch Community Campus from 6 til 7pm every Friday for players aged 5 to 7 years old. For more information on these sessions contact NICC directly.

The PYF Saltires U16 squad travelled to England at the weekend to participate in a tri-nation U16 international tournament in Middlesbrough, where they faced host club Middlesbrough Futsal Club and also Vikings Futsal from Australia.

The PYF squad consisted of Andy McDowell, Colin McDonald, James Yates, Grant Napier, Hugh Cairney, David Mott, Kyle Ballingall, Ryan Robb, Dean Smith & Connor Dow.

In the first game, the PYF team faced Vikings Futsal from Australia. A nervous start to the game saw PYF fall behind due to a defensive lapse, but we soon levelled, only to see the Aussies regain the lead after another defensive mistake and the half ended with the PYF team trailing despite controlling most of the possession.

The second half saw a complete transformation as the PYF team found their form, cut out the mistakes and went on to score six unanswered goals to comfortably win 7-2.

In the 2nd game, the PYF team faced the home side Middlesbrough Futsal Club, who had recently finished as runners up in the English U16s national championships.

The strength of the opposition was quite evident and this was a closer game than the one against the Aussies.
However, as in the first game, the PYF team showed their resilience and went on to score a further four goals without reply to win the game 8-3 and win the tournament.

Perth Saltires had a well earned 4-1 win against Cherrybank to remain top of the table in the Scottish Futsal League, whilst Perth Youth Saltires overcame Steaua Perth 9-2 to remain joint 3rd in the National League.

Only Perth Youth Saltires are in National League action on Monday evening.
The club will send a team to Belgium for the Lommel tourney in November.
