Gibraltar admitted to UEFA junior football and Futsal competitions

Gibraltar Football Association President Gareth Latin announced that Gibraltar has been invited to participate in UEFA Under 17, Under 19 and Futsal competitions, commencing in September 2013, despite Spain’s “outright objection”.

GFA will thus join the 53 UEFA member nations. The application is being submitted and the draw for the competitions, four nations in each group, will take place on December 4 and 5 at UEFA HQ at Nyon, Switzerland.

Host nations are Malta (U17) and Hungary (U19), Futsal is yet undecided.
“This demonstrates that UEFA has faith in us”, says a delighted Mr. Latin.
From Madrid Spain’s Secretary of State for Sport Miguel Cardenal said he was travelling to UEFA headquarters to present “Spain’s outright objection” to Gibraltar becoming a fully fledged permanent member of UEFA.

This echoes past comments by the Minister for Sport who had expressed the hope that Gibraltar’s provisional membership status would not materialise into full membership. (Gibraltar Chronicle)

Gibraltar invited to take part in 3 UEFA organised international competitions

UEFA have invited Gibraltar to participate in the upcoming European Under 17 and Under 19 championship qualifying stages, as well as the qualifying stage for the Futsal European Championships.

The news, which is a significant part of Gibraltar and UEFA’s roadmap, signals Gibraltar’s first participation in a UEFA organised competition. The draw for the competitions are on the 4th December, in Nyon, Switzerland, with the competitions taking place in September 2013, after the decision on Gibraltar’s full UEFA membership is made.

GFA made provisional members

The Gibraltar FA is pleased to announce that it has today been granted provisional membership of UEFA at a meeting of the European football governing body's Executive Committee in St.Petersburg, Russia.

The vote on the Gibraltar FA's full membership of UEFA will take place on the 24th May 2013 during the XXXVII Congress to be held in London, England.

The Gibraltar FA thanks the UEFA Executive Committee and reiterates its steadfast commitment to working with UEFA on the "roadmap" towards full membership and to building relationships with the 53 fellow member associations.
