Nanta asks for more futsal courts in Kapit

by James Ling

October 16, 2012, Tuesday

KAPIT: While complimenting the Ministry of Youth and Sports for building 1Malaysia futsal courts in the division, Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi also called on the ministry to consider giving more of such projects to Kapit next year.

He revealed that up to date Kapit parliamentary constituency has seven 1Malaysia futsal courts, of which three are in Song district – two at the town and one at Rumah Richard Nudong at Nanga Beguang; four in Kapit (Pelagus) – at Rumah Engking Sungai Amang, Maksak Club House, Rumah Manok Manchal Sungai Yong and Masjib Jabal An-Nur Kapit.

“Kapit constituency is vast and hence we still need more of the projects (futsal 1Malaysia court) to further encourage youths, especially those in the rural areas to be active in sports and also to promote a healthy lifestyle among the community,” he said at the official opening of the 1Malaysia futsal court at Rumah Engking at Sungai Amang in Kapit district recently.

The court was completed in August this year at a cost of RM150,000.
Nanta himself had chipped in RM40,000 to have the area surrounding the court cemented and the access road paved, which was carried out by the Ninth Infantry Brigade through the ‘Jiwa Murni’ programme, in collaboration with Rela, Territorial Army 510 C Company and the village JKKK.
“This is good as it has helped to enhance closer rapport between the youth, community, the army and the other government agencies” he said of the gotong-royong project.

To coincide with its opening ceremony, a futsal competition was held that saw the participation of 14 teams. A friendly match was also held between the Ninth Brigade led by Brigade General Datuk Stephen Mundaw and the VIP guests headed by Nanta.

Later at the function, Nanta announced a grant of RM10,000 to the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Rumah Engking and RM5,000 each to newly-formed Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) branches in Rumah Engking, Kampung Balan and Sungai Sesibau.
Meanwhile Youth and Sports officer here, Jack Janda Pioh, disclosed that Hulu Rajang constituency had nine 1Malaysia futsal courts, of which five were in Belaga constituency and four in Baleh constituency.

Built at a cost of RM150,000 each, he said, among others, it was to encourage and provide an opportunity for the youths to be more active in sports activities to deter them from indulging in social ills.

The function was also attended by Mundaw, Deputy Resident (Social Development) Mohd Ikhmal Abdullah, Kapit district officer Elvis Disit, political secretary to the chief minister Tengku Geruna, Kapit deputy walikota Jefferson Jamit Unyat, other government officials and community leaders.
