Lester Mekan BahaSeptember 28, 2012, FridayKUCHING: SMK Tabuan Jaya (SMTJ) emerged victorious in the under 14 Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) Kuching futsal championship held yesterday.
They edged SMK Batu Lintang 2-0 in the exciting final and coming in third placing was SMK Matang Jaya while SMK Bandar Kuching finished fourth.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zadi Adruse (Tunaz) principal, Affida Helmi said some parents are still reluctant to encourage their children to take up sports due to safety concern.
She said taking up sports has been proven to be an effective method of building self-esteem, self-discipline and goal oriented behaviour as well as providing children with the means to protect themselves when presented with a threat.
“Sports is not the panacea to all of our children’s problems. It gives them a solid foundation to cope with the pressures each endures throughout childhood, setting the patterns and behaviour for a successful transition to adolescent,” said Affida.
The event organising chairman, Eh Fat E Sau who is also Tunaz’s co-curriculum senior assistant said the standard of the game in this year’s competition had improved both technically and tactically.
A total of 20 teams participated in the two-day competition organised by Tunaz in collaboration with MSNS.
