New Straits TimesExciting climax on the cardsTOP-CLASS:Best teams to collide in Milo Hidup Bola Futsal Carnival grand finalsIT will be a Malaysia Day celebration with a difference at the Sports Planet in Ampang tomorrow as 64 teams do battle for the Under-12 and Under-16 Milo Hidup Bola Futsal Carnival grand finals.
The 64 sides are the cream of the crop from the record 1,400 teams that competed in the 14 legs that were contested in all 14 states from April till July.
This was an increase of 112 teams from last year, which pleased the organisers.
The 32 teams in each category for tomorrow's Grand Finals will be aiming for the coveted grand prize of RM15,000 cash, championship trophy, medals and Milo and Figos products.
The runners-up in both categories will win RM10,000 cash while the losing semi-finalists will receive RM7,000 each.
To inculcate saving, the prize money will be credited into the saving accounts of the winning players.
The Grand Finals, based on the competition in the regional legs, will be an exciting affair as the quality of the game has improved tremendously since the start of the Milo Futsal carnival six years ago.
"The best junior futsal talents from the 64 best teams in the Under-12 and Under-16 categories will be on display in the Grand finals," said Nestle sports marketing manager Ng Ping Loong.
"I am confident many of these talented juniors will mature to become good futsal players and footballers to represent and bring honour to Malaysia in the future."
The players have an added reason to impress as former national skipper Datuk Soh Chin Aun will present the winners with their medals and other incentives.
The carnival can also be followed at facebook.com/MILOhidupbola which will provide updates on a regular basis tomorrow.
