Kenya: Asembo Replaces Alila in Powerful FKF Finance Committee

FOOTBALL Kenya Federation (FKF) finance committee chairman Tom Alila has been replaced. Alila was replaced by acting vice chairman and Nairobi NEC representative Robert Asembo. Alila, who is also the Nyanza NEC representative, will now take charge of the Futsal and Beach football committee.

Alila yesterday protested against the move, saying it had not been sanctioned by the federation's National Executive Committee. "Asembo cannot purport to replace me. He has not even been confirmed as the vice chairman by the national congress. He should stop being too ambitious," added Alila when he addressed a press conference in Kisumu yesterday.

He added: "The federation is facing serious credibility issues and we will not be able to develop football if they start these kind of machinations." Alila defended his decision to go for the Ndhiwa parliamentary seat, saying FIFA constitution does not bar one from contesting political office. He is contesting the seat on a Kanu ticket in Monday's by election.

Speaking on phone, Asembo rubbished Alila's claims and said all the federation committees' chairmen were holding the positions on interim basis. "When we were elected, there were no statutes in place. We recently ratified our constitution and we have formulated the committees," he added.

Asembo said no committee was reserved for Alila or any region. "A committee can be chaired by any NEC member and we have formed the committees with five members each," added Asembo. He said the changes are normal and denied any scheme. "There is no scheme or machination against anybody at the federation," added Asembo.

In a post on his Facebook page, suspended vice chairman Sammy Sholei said he had warned Alila that he was next in line from the federation. Sholei claimed that there was a plot to expel Alila from the federation due to his involvement in politics.
