FIFA.comFutsal kings to receive FIFA World Champions BadgeFriday 24 August 2012The winners of this year’s FIFA Futsal World Cup will, for the first time, receive a FIFA World Champions Badge as recognition of their triumph.
The FIFA Futsal World Cup Champions badge is just one in a series of FIFA World Champions Badges which are awarded to the winners of selected FIFA events. The first team to be presented with the FIFA World Cup™ Champions badge was the Italian men’s national team, champions of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany, with the Spanish national team taking over this honour after their success in South Africa in 2010.
Champions Badges have also been awarded to the past two winners of the FIFA Women’s World Cup; Germany and Japan, as well as to some of the top club football teams in the world – AC Milan, FC Internazionale Milano, Manchester United and most recently FC Barcelona – to mark their respective victories in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The FIFA Futsal World Cup Champions badge will be worn by the eventual winners of Thailand 2012 from their first match after this year’s tournament until their last match of the next edition of the event in 2016.
For the 24 participating teams, the route to becoming the badge’s first recipients became clearer earlier today when the Official Draw was made in Bangkok, and you can read more from that event by visiting the links on the right.
