When Missouri Comets coach Kim Roentved made a recruiting trip to Denmark, he hoped to come back with the type of players who could help his third-year MISL team reach the league’s championship game.

Mission accomplished.

Coming off their second straight MISL semifinal appearance, the Comets announced the addition of Danish forwards Mads Falck Larsen and Kevin Jorgensen, pending league approval and proper visas.

“We have been so close the past two years (to a championship series appearance),” Roentved said. “Mads and Kevin might be the pieces that help us get over the hump and bring our fans the championship they have been looking for.”

Larsen, 22, currently plays for Copenhagen Futsal, formerly Sport Italia. He is the top scorer in Denmark with 15 goals in just 10 matches and scored eight goals against the former four-time defending champions from BGA Futsal on his way to win the Danish Futsal Championship in January.

“I’m very passionate about indoor soccer and will fight tooth and nail when I arrive in the U.S.” Larsen said. “I’ve always played indoor soccer and believe my strengths will benefit there. I’m excited to meet the rest of the team.”

Jorgensen, 25, is a talented striker who played for BGA Futsal in the Danish Futsal League, and was second in the league in scoring with 10 goals. Jorgensen scored four goals in three appearances for UEFA (European Football Association) Futsal Champions league matches. He is also expected to appear with the Danish National Team later this summer as they prepare for the 2014 World Cup (Futsalplanet note: Soccer WC 2014, Futsal EC 2014 or Futsal WC 2016?).

“I am very excited to come play soccer for the Comets, and in the United States,” Jorgensen said. “Playing for Kim will be a great honor for me, plus I’m looking to meeting my new teammates and playing in front of the crowds. It’s a dream come true.”

Larsen and Jorgensen have played for rival teams in the past, recently meeting at the Danish Futsal championship game – Larsen for Sport Italia and Jorgensen for BGA Futsal. Sport Italia beat BGA 4-1. BGA had won two of the last three Danish Futsal championships.

“I am happy we are going to be in Kansas City together,” Larsen said. “Jorgensen and I have similar playing styles but different strengths, which work well together.”

Jorgensen is excited to share his MISL experiences with another player from Denmark.

“I know Mads from the time we have played together and we have a good relationship,” Jorgensen said. “It’s also nice to have one more from Denmark with me and to share our experiences.”
