First-ever meeting as Mexico holds a 7-16-2 overall record against Central American squads, while Panama has a 3-2-2 versus North American nations … This is the fourth time that Mexico competes for the tournament’s third-place prize, with the Tricolores achieving their only bronze medal at the inaugural event in 1996 in Guatemala … Meanwhile, The Canaleros are playing in their second consecutive third-place encounter after losing the USA (7:1) in the 2008 tournament … Mexico and Panama are coming off semifinal losses on Friday to host Guatemala (3:0) and Costa Rica (4:1), respectively … Both teams had already earned their berths to the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup by reaching CONCACAF’s Final Four.

GUATEMALA – COSTA RICA (CHAMPIONSHIP)
This is the 12th meeting with Costa Rica leading the series 6-2-3, however it is the first time both teams face-off in the CONCACAF tournament … After securing berths to the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup, Guatemala and Costa Rica are coming off semifinal victories on Friday against Mexico (3:0) and Panama (4:1), respectively … The last time the Central American sides met, Guatemala posted its second ever victory over Costa Rica (3:1) during the consolation round of the 2010 Grand Prix de Futsal in Anápolis, Brazil … The Chapines have a nine-game tournament unbeaten streak and have not lost to a CONCACAF team at Ciudad de Guatemala’s Domo Polideportivo since the Ticos posted 4:2 win during the Central American qualifying to the 2007 Pan American Games.

By reaching the semifinals of the CONCACAF Championship, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and Panama all qualified to the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup taking place in Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand from 1-18 November … The Ticos and Chapines will be making their third appearance at the FIFA Tournament, while the Tricolores and Canaleros their first … The four CONCACAF Representatives join the following qualified nations to complete the 24-team field: Host - Thailand; Africa (CAF) – Egypt, Libya, Morocco; Asia (AFC) – Australia, Iran, Japan, Kuwait; Europe (UEFA) – Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Ukraine; South America (CONMEBOL) – Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay; Oceania (OFC) – Soloman Islands.

CONCACAF’s 100th Futsal Match, Guatemala – USA, on 4 July drew a record crowd of 6,046 at the Domo Polideportivo, breaking the previous mark of 5,715 set at the 2008 tournament finale when the host topped Cuba on penalties … The new CONCACAF attendance record also exceeded 39 of the 56 games played at the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brazil
