New futsal court for residents

by Jasmine Shadiqe

JOHOR BARU: Residents of Kampung Peradin in Tanjung Piai in Pontian, will finally get their futsal court -- after a wait of two years.

The residents, including villagers from Kampung Belokok, Peradin and Sungai Karang, will now be able to hold futsal games and other sports at the court.

The court can also be used for badminton, sepak takraw, netball and indoor hockey.

The new court, built by the Pontian district National Youth and Sports Department, replaces the old one which was damaged following a minor landslide.

Kampung Belokok deputy Umno Youth chairman Muhamad Hazelly Bachok, 27, said the new court is also equipped with basic amenities such as lighting, water and a toilet.

"We hope the court will encourage teenagers to engage in sports instead of wasting their time," said Hazelly.

The court will also be the venue for the elderly in the villages to keep fit.

Hazelly said in the past two years since the old court was damaged, the area had turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes, with overgrown bushes all around.

Meanwhile, Kampung Sungai Karang village head Roslan Bokari has laid down several guidelines for using the court.

A RM25 fee per hour will be charged for use during the day, and RM45 at night.

Students will enjoy special rates.

Kukup assemblyman Md Othman Yusof declared open the court recently.
