Carlos AruafuWednesday, 14 December 2011The Honiara City Council (HCC) futsal championship is set to kick off this Saturday December 17 at the Multipurpose Hall.
Sports Development officer for the HCC, Samson Habu confirmed yesterday that competition will officially be opened by the HCC Mayor Israel Maeoli on Saturday morning.
Habu said competition will be played in two categories, one for the men’s open and the second will feature the U13 and U14 year’s old players.
He added that the competition is scheduled to end early next month.
He said the aim of the competition is to engage youths from the communities in and around the Honiara City in sports during the festive season.
The opening will start with a brief uniform parade by participating teams followed by the first matches which will be a curtain raiser match between the futsal All Stars team and the national U16 futsal squad who are preparing to attend the upcoming U16 futsal competition in Fiji.
Meanwhile registration for interested teams is still open until 8am Saturday morning prior to the official opening.
Registration fees are $250 per team.
Habu said so far more than ten teams have already registered and he urged other interested clubs to register quickly so as to help organizers draw up the fixtures quickly before the first competition matches kick off.
As part of the Solomon Islands Football federation support for the competition, SIFF has allocated 13 referees to officiate in the competition.
