Soccer Nation619 Futsal Opening Day SuccessSaturday, November 26, 2011 Sean Bowers, founder of 619 Futsal, was a hard-working man satisfied with what he accomplished on Opening Day.
Bowers, a well known and highly-respected coach, had a vision to bring more opportunities to play futsal to San Diego and successfully started 619 Futsal. A lot of hard work went into the creation of a brand new futsal league for San Diego and, according to Bowers, it is all about developing players and their passion for the great game of soccer.
"Thank you to everyone who attended 619 Futsal's Opening Day, with special thanks going to the San Diego SeaLions, Kona Ice, Coke, Zico and Sparklettes for helping provide all the food, drinks and free giveaways," said Sean Bowers, founder of 619 Futsal.
The opening day for 619 Futsal was held at Miramar College and started off with the GU-10 Rumbling Rhinos versus the Stinging Scorpions. The Rhinos rumbled right over those Scorpions 3-1 with the leading Rhino, Chloe Ross, stomping 2 goals past the Scorpions keeper.
The next game of the day featured San Diego Surf's BU-10 playing up in the U11/U12 bracket versus Nott's Forest BU-11. The match was an exciting game with lots of end-to-end action and a final score of 4-1 with the Surf team winning. The Surf BU10 team won State Cup last year and joined the 619 League in preparation for this year's competition, and because of their love of the game.
The Arsenal U-13 girls played each other next and enjoyed every minute of futsal fun.
The Men's game followed and had some great end-to-end action before ending in a 4-4 tie.
The final event of the day was a skills session with Sean Bowers, former US National Futsal Team Captain and owner of 619 Futsal, and assistant Nick Faria. The free hour-long clinic was attended by 70 players and was fun, educational and action packed.
Bowers said, "Today was a great success and made possible with the help of a lot of key people. Playing futsal is an amazing way to improve your skill as a soccer player and to develop."
If you didn't get a chance to attend, please feel free to go on-line and get a schedule of games and you can come and see why 60 teams have decided to make futsal their choice to keep their soccer skills sharp this winter.
