Fancy footwork from young Futsal footballers

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

YOUNG Bideford footballers displayed some fancy footwork when they had a try at Futsal, the fast growing sport with which players in Portugal and Latin America have long honed their skills and which is now making its mark in Europe.

Bideford AFC Youth ran an introduction to Futsal in the Sports Hall at Bideford College.

The session was run on the club’s behalf by Exeter City.

Originating in Portugal, this fast growing indoor sport is being used by professional players to help develop superior skills and footwork.

Futsal is the only indoor football format recognised by FIFA and will be played for the first time as an Olympic sport in Brazil 2016.

It is a scaled down version of football, played by teams of five players. It is played on small sized pitches, both indoors and outdoors with a ball that is a smaller size, heavier and has less bounce.
