Camden Haven CourierJeremy earns spot in Australian team to tour China26 Oct, 2011Seventeen year old Jeremy Robinson from Laurieton, is one of two Camden Haven High School students to gain national selection in the sport of futsal.
Futsal is essentially a scaled down version of outdoor football or soccer, played indoors in a five-a-side format.
Jeremy spent the first week of the September school holidays at the National School Futsal Championships in Brisbane.
From there he was selected in the Australian Vikings Youth Futsal team to tour China in April next year.
For Jeremy it will be his first trip overseas. His parents Chris and Gary are extremely excited for him.
“It will be an experience of a lifetime,” Chris said.
Jeremy started playing soccer at six years of age for the Camden Haven Redbacks. Last year he played reserve grade and this year played Premier League, which he enjoyed.
He has only played futsal for two years. He was introduced to the sport at school and last summer played in the Port Macquarie Under 16s competition, which the team won.
Jeremy will turn 18 while playing in China. According to his mother “It will be a birthday to remember.”
Chris is hoping to organise some fund-raising events to help get Jeremy to China.
“If anyone would like to sponsor him or donate goods for a raffle, it would be very much appreciated,” she said.
