Bintulu coach Mohd Hamid Ghani said the victory was especially sweet because his players achieved it by ending the domination of the Kuching team. Bintulu scored the two goals through Marafi Baharudin and Rosli Suhaili before Kuching responded with a goal to reduce the deficit.
Meanwhile, Bintulu team manager Herman Lanying Tinggang said the players had performed beyond expectations as they had targetted only a semi-final finish.
“The hard work of the team, led by Mohd Hamid and Rosli Suhaili, had paid off,” he added.
Sibu and Sarikei were joint thirds.
In the women’s final, Kuching made up for their men’s defeat by thrashing Betong 3-0 with host Kapit A and Mukah finishing joint thirds.
Shahraniza Amil from Kuching was the men’s top scorer with five goals while Rogayah Ali also from Kuching top-scored in the women’s category with six goals. The fairplay awards for men and women went to Sarikei and host Kapit A respectively.
Mukah’s Hendry Anyie and Nuriah Muntiol from Sri Aman won the awards for the oldest players in men and women’s categories.
