BORO’S COMMUNITY FUTSAL CUP IS HEREMiddlesbrough Futsal Club are organising a futsal tournament next weekend and are looking for teams to take part in the launch edition of the Community Futsal Cup, to be played at Catterick Leisure Centre on Sunday 28th August, between 11am and 6pm.
The tournament is open to any group of friends, or group representing a community or organisation, but the team name should reflect that! The aim is to steer away from the likes of Unreal Madrid and Hardly Athletic that are common in regular 5-a-side and bring together communities, competing for the title of community champion 2012.
Entry fee is only £25 per team and the format is two groups of four followed by a knockout stage, so each team is guaranteed three matches at least. The winners will receive a large trophy, and their names will be etched onto it for the rest of time! So what are you waiting for, get some friends or colleagues together and be the first name on the Community Futsal Cup! What’s more, all eight entrants this year will be guaranteed a place in the final 16 next year, with the other eight places going to qualifiers!
“I used to run a tournament similar to this in Lancashire and it grew and grew before I moved to the North East and I want to give something similar to the community up here. This is just the first year and I already have plans to expand the tournament to feature qualifying rounds and a junior version next year,” explained Damon Shaw, Boro chairman.
“I’d love to see teams representing different communities and cultures taking part and we can start a really important tournament for the North East that will bring together many diverse groups, while also promoting futsal to the masses!”
Futsal rules will be applied, and this differs from 5-a-side in that the ball can go out of play, all players can enter the box and can score from anywhere, slide tackles are allowed, but only 5 fouls per team are permitted, before conceding a penalty! You can use a maximum of nine players, with a minimum of five needed to play futsal. More information about the game can be found on BoroFutsal.com.
To enter, simply send an email to info@borofutsal.co.uk with your team name and contact details of the "President" who will be the main contact for your team, and we will be in touch to arrange payment and take your squad list!
