Futsal's Growing Popularity

San Diego KUSI News found Coach Mario Mrakovic at his San Diego Futsal Camp and discovered the sheer fun of Futsal last year and this year has grown even more.

Develop great skill and have a fabulously fun time? Learn like the world class soccer pros? Yes, this is all possible and it is catching on like wildfire.

Soccer in general is growing in popularity all around America and in San Diego, one of the hot beds of youth soccer, Futsal (also known as 5 a side or mini soccer) is the fastest growing style of soccer.

Futsal summer camps are so fun, the campers couldn’t wait to explain why playing fustal is so great to camera crews from KUSI TV local sports. In a special KUSI TV segment featuring San Diego Futsal, founder Mario Mrakovic was interviewed along with several campers on what makes futsal so fun.

Watch this short clip to see why young soccer players love Futsal and can improve their technique easily from all the 'touches' on the ball.

Mario Mrakovic says "The hiring of Jurgen Klinsmann as Head Coach for the U.S. Men's National Team clearly shows that the U.S. wants more technically developed players. Futsal is a perfect way to improve your soccer skills. I played Futsal since I was 4 years old and I still love it today." Mrakovic is also the grass roots soccer youth development coach for San Diego Surf Soccer and coaches boys and girls U7.

Futsal is played indoors on a hard surface like a basketball court and is very fast paced. A huge sport in Europe, many of today's top soccer stars such as Messi and Ronaldo trained with Futsal when they were young soccer players. The U.S. is just catching on to what the world has known for decades.

To be a great soccer player requires strong technical skills and the ability to think quickly. Superior soccer skills are developed through Futsal's demanding quick action. Futsal players must respond immediately and be able to make intelligent, quick decisions. World famous clubs and successful soccer powerhouses such as Spain, Brazil, Holland, Germany, France, and Italy all play Futsal.
