Futsal Scholarships kick off at Exeter City FC

Exeter City Football Club is starting a new Futsal Education and Scholarship programme in September, aimed at year 11 and 12 school leavers.

The BTEC programme provides students with an alternative to traditional Further Education which could still lead to further studies at university or employment in the sports and leisure industry.

Futsal is the only form of indoor football officially recognised by the worldwide governing body FIFA, and is also supported by UEFA and the FA.

Students enrolling on the Futsal Scholarship Programme will be trained by Exeter City FC coaches, will receive up to 6 hours training per week from UEFA level coaches, and will be able to watch Exeter City FC stars in training and first team matches.

Julian Tagg, Chief Executive at Exeter City FC said: “The Futsal Scholarship Programme gives young players the opportunity to develop their technical, tactical, physiological and social skills in a sporting environment whilst gaining a BTEC qualification.

“We are delighted to be involved with such a forward thinking project, and it is a valuable addition to the educational partnership we have developed at the club, from KS2 through to Higher Education. Futsal is a great game where you need to think quickly and play quickly and we know it will place a major role in their development as players and people.”

The full-time course is part of a new partnership deal between Exeter City FC and @Futsal Ltd.

The course underpins playing performance with opportunities to focus on vocational education pathways, and also enables students to play an active role in their communities by providing industry-recognised coaching and refereeing awards.

Craig Beecham, Director of Education at @Futsal Ltd added: “Futsal is the fastest growing sport in the world and we want to be part of that. We’re extremely excited by our new partnership with Exeter City FC and it’s fantastic news for the scholars, as they’ll be learning from some of the best and may one day end up representing our country.”

Places are still available to join the Futsal scholarship starting in September. Anyone interested in applying should contact jamie.vittles@exetercityfc.co.uk for more information.
