Gulf Daily NewsAl Nuaimi team grab Futsal titleThursday, June 30, 2011KHALID bin Ali Al Nuaimi team clinched the first-ever Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa Futsal Soccer Championship, organised by Riffa Club.
In the title decider, held at the club's gym in Hunainiya, Khalid bin Ali Al Nuaimi's team battled past Ahmed Sharif Furniture 4-3.
The victors kick-started their campaign finishing on top in Group 'C' in the first round with nine points from a 100 per cent win record.
They then edged out Al Mannai 8-3 in the quarter-finals, which was followed by a resounding 3-0 victory over strong contenders Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa team.
Ahmed Sharif, on the other hand, dominated Group 'B' in the first round. They marched on defeating Mohammed bin Rashid Al Nuaimi 6-3 in the quarter-finals, then edged out Sanad Royal Estate 7-5 on penalties after regular time ended 4-4.
Tournament's organiser Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa attended the final and honoured the finalists.
Shaikh Khalid, who is also honorary board member and manager of the club's soccer team, presented side prizes, including the ideal team trophy to Mohammed bin Rashid Al Nuaimi team.
The top scorer cup went to Ali Abdulrasool of Khalid bin Ali Al Nuaimi team while Ahmed Sharif Furniture's Abdulelah Abdulrasool received the best goalkeeper award.
Also attending the final were senior club officials, including general secretary Abdulla Al Dossary and board members Ali Al Ansari, Ali Al Gaud, Khalid Al Ka'abi, club director Maher Sulaiman and organising committee officials.
Shaikh Khalid congratulated Khalid bin Ali Al Nuaimi team on their victory and wished other success in future tournaments.
He also thanked the club's board and members of the organising committee for their efforts in making this event a success, hailing the high level of the teams who competed during the week-long tournament.
