Iranian futsal club wins opener at Asia

Iranian club Shahid Mansouri has defeated Ardus of Uzbekistan in the first group stage match of the 2011 Asian Futsal Club Championship underway in Qatar.

The Iranian team played an arduous game to earn a 4-2 victory against Ardus at Doha's Al Rayyan Main Hall on Sunday.

Shahid Mansouri opened the scoring when Majid Latif teed up a perfect shot for Esameil Vatankhah in the 10th minute of the match.

Mohamamd Keshavarz doubled the team's tally in the 20th minute, and Morteza Azimaei increased the lead eight minutes into the second-half.

Konstantin Sviridov pulled one back for Ardus in the 31st minute, and a few minutes later Jamoliddin Sharipov reduced the deficit for the Uzbek club.

Just before the final whistle, Masoud Daneshvar scored Shahid Mansouri's fourth to seal the victory for the Iranian club.

Shahid Mansouri is leading the four-team Group B table with three points. The club is scheduled to take on Al Sadaka of Lebanon on Monday.

Shahid Mansouri's head coach Reza Lak was satisfied with the team's performance, and said after the match that the Iranian squad would try its best to keep the trophy of the event in the country.

Foulad Mahan Sepahan won the title in the first edition of the competition in 2010.

In Group A of the event, Nagoya Oceans of Japan pummeled Zhejiang Dragon 8-1.

A total of 8 top Asian teams are participating in the 6-day continental showpiece.
