CONCACAF UNVEILS SCHEDULE FOR 2004 FINAL ROUND QUALIFICATION; THREE TEAMS LOOK FOR LAST BERTHS TO CONCACAF EVENT

CONCACAF unveiled the complete schedule of matches for the 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Final Round Qualification that will run from 23-31 July at the Palacio de los Deportes in Herédia, Costa Rica. COMPLETE SCHEDULE

The third edition of the CONCACAF Futsal Tournament will once again qualify two nations to the FIFA Futsal World Championship. The 2004 FIFA competition will be held in Chinese Taipei from 21 November - 5 December.

The eight-team 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Championship will feature two groups of four with the host and defending champions, Costa Rica in Group A. Meanwhile Cuba, the only nation to qualify to the last two FIFA Futsal World Championships, has been placed in Group B. Prior to the event the six remaining qualifying teams will be drawn into either Group A or B.

The final three berths will be determined this week as the CONCACAF Futsal Preliminaries continue with three Central American Zone nations (El Salvador, Honduras, Panama) each meeting one of three North Zone teams (Canada, Mexico, USA) in separate pairings. Each series will play two games in a single venue with the team amassing the better aggregate score progressing to Costa Rica 2004. COMPLETE FIXTURES

GUATEMALA DEFEATS EL SALVADOR; TRINIDAD & TOBAGO STUNS CUBA IN FRIENDLY

Guatemala's Futsal Team posted a 7:0 victory over visiting El Salvador in a friendly at the Gimnasio Bremen in Ciudad de Guatemala on 13 May (COMPLETE STORY), while Trinidad & Tobago stunned Pre-CONCACAF Futsal Tournament favorite Cuba 2:1 in the opener of a two-game friendly series in La Habana on 16 May.

The soca warriors will look to extend their five-game futsal-winning streak with the second encounter against the cubanos on 18 May.
