The number of teams have been decreased from 32 to 24.

Prize Money:
€15,000. This will be allocated between 12 teams. (see breakdown below)

Format:
8 groups of 3 teams.
All group matches will be played over the first 2 days of the Tournament.
8 group winners progress to semi-finals of Cup competition.
8 second place teams progress to semi-finals of Plate competition.
8 third place teams progress to semi-finals of Bowl competition.
Semi-finals will be staged over 1 day allowing each team .
Cup, Plate and Bowl finals will be staged on final day of the tournament Saturday 11th May 2002

Invitation Process:
In 2002, the teams will be invited via the following criteria.

· Top 8 teams from Belgian Fusal competition.
· 1 Organizer (Zvk Ford Genk)
· 1 Top team from Spain (Division d'Honnor)
· 1 Top team from Italy (1rst Division)
· 1 Top team from Poland
· 1 Top team from Netherlands
· 11 Wildcards (Greece, Hungary, ….)

Details:

Action 21 Charleroi of Belgium won the 2002 Ford Genk Cup held in Belgium from May 8-11. The annual futsal tournament sanctioned by FIFA and Belgium's Football Association saw Action 21 Charleroi defeat FP Houthalen (of Belgium) 5:1 in the finals held in the city of Genk on May 11. By winning the championship, Action 21 Charleroi became the first Belgium club to win the tournament since the host ZVK Ford Genk did it in 1997. Prior to the final, Action 21 Charleroi posted a convincing 6:3 win over West Stars Rotterdam of Holland in the semifinals earlier in the day. The 2002 UEFA Futsal Cup Runners-up, Action 21 Charleroi advanced to the semifinals by defeating the U.S. Futsal National Team by the slimmest of margins, 1:0 in the penalty kick shootout after playing to a 1:1 draw at the end of regulation on May 10.
