Waisea NasokiaMay 4 2018The Lami-based Babasiga Cubs is aiming to claim their second title in the University of Fiji sponsored Fiji FUTSAL Festival 2018 at the National Hockey Centre in Suva this weekend.
The side is made up of Lami senior players that defeated Red Devils 3-1 during the Is-land Pacific Apparel/Hai’s Autopart (Canada) Limited Futsal Carnival in Nadi last February.
Coach/player Deepak Chand said, “After winning the Nadi Futsal we are trying to win our second tournament in-a-row. We know that competition will be top notch but we love to be pushed to the edge.”
Some notable teams that will be a force to reckon with are Vanuatu One which included national reps Renly Tari and Luis Sivas.
Wantok is made up of Solomon Islands students studying at USP, Dhanji Boys, Southern Forest, Red Devils featuring Shafim Buksh and former national rep Mohammed Shalmeen and not forgetting Northpole (Labasa) with the services of brothers Altaaf and Mira Sahib.
Tournament coordinator Mohammed Nadeem said, “After organizing Futsal in Nadi since 2014, I decided to take this event to Suva after requests from teams that were travelling to my event over the years.
“Five per cent of the gate-takings will be given to the Golden Age Home as part of our social obligation. The winner gets $1500, runner up $750, losing semi-finalist $200,” he added.
Forty teams will take part and Nadeem thanked their major sponsors University of Fiji, Fiji FA, Reliance Pharmacy, Island Pacific Apparel, Sports World, Hai’s Autoport (Canada) Limited, Canform Industries Limited, Clean Freight Solutions (Fiji) Limited and Capricorn Hotels Fiji.
Day one competition kicks off on Saturday at 7am the final is set for 4.20pm on Sunday.
