United News of BangladeshBD Women’s Futsal team leave for Thailand MondaySunday 29 April, 2018Dhaka, Apr 29 (UNB) – Bangladesh Women’s Futsal team will leave here for Thailand on Monday noon to participate for the first time in the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship to be held in Thai capital Bangkok on May 2-12.
Bangladesh women’s team will make their debut in the five-a-side Futsal tournament to gain experience in this format of football. Among the 14-member Bangladesh team, only captain Sabina Khatun has experience of playing the futsal in the Maldives domestic circuit in 2015 and 2016.
Fifteen Asian teams, split into four groups, will compete in the five-a-side women’s football tournament. The group champions and runners-up team will play in the quarterfinals.
Addressing a press conference at the BFF House on Sunday, Bangladesh captain Sabina Khatun said, “No one of our players has any experience of playing the Futsal being member of the national team although I myself played the game for a domestic club in the Maldives in 2015 and 2016. This time we’re going to Thailand to gather experiences in this format of the game.”
Bangladesh coach Golam Rabbani Chotan said, “We have no definite target…. we want to get experience and exposures from the tournament. Among our opponents, Vietnam are the five-time runners-up in the South East Asian Games.”
Bangladesh, which were put in Group B of the tournament along with Malaysia, Vietnam and Chinese Taipei, will play Malaysia in one of the five opening day matches at 6 pm local time at Bangkok Arena in Bangkok on May 2.
In the remaining group matches, Bangladesh will play Vietnam on May 3 at the same venue and face Chinese Taipei on May 6 at the Hua Mak Indoor Stadium, also in Bangkok.
