The men’s Yukon Selects FC are competing at the Futsal Canadian Championship in Kingston, Ont. for the first time.

The team is currently 0-2 in their round-robin pool.

They dropped their first game Thursday afternoon 11-1 to Sporting Québec FC.

Playing this morning in their second game, the Yukon men’s squad lost 15-2 to the Toronto Idolo Futsal Club.

Dawson Weir, Ashley Jordan and Tyler Milton have the three goals for the Selects in the tournament.

The team has one more round-robin game Saturday afternoon against Calgary Progressive FC.

All of the eight teams in the competition will advance to another game with seeding matches as first in each group will play to decide the overall winner, and so on for each finishing position in the group stage.

Futsal is a rapidly growing sport across the country and that is evident in the advancement of the futsal national championships in just one year.

At the 2017 event, only three teams participated from Ontario, Québec and Saskatchewan.

This year’s tournament expanded to eight teams with representation from the Yukon, Nunavut, Manitoba and Alberta as well.
