Tranmere Rovers break the Guinness World Record
Tranmere Rovers break the Guinness World Record

Over the weekend, a group of Tranmere Rovers staff, supporters and futsal players completed 50 hours of non-stop futsal in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest futsal match.

The Futsal Shop was main sponsor of the attempt, donating £500 including match balls. The Futsal Shop has a mission to give back to futsal with at least 1% of sales will be given back to causes that benefit the futsal family. The Futsal Shop sells all futsal related equipment from goals to trainers.

"Sponsoring the event as well as taking part was such an honour. Mike Knight was my captain last season and while I never met his brother, Lee, I felt really close to the cause and so happy to have helped break the record and raise money for the Lee Knight Foundation," said Damon Shaw, manager of Tranmere Rovers Futsal and director of The Futsal Shop.

The current record stands at 40 hours and in the next few days, the 50 hours will be ratified and the group will be declared World Record holders having smashed the current time by 10 hours.
The match took place at the Futsal Hub at Prenton Park with hundreds of spectators coming in and out of the centre throughout the 50 hours, witnessing hundreds of goals in that time. The final score was 895-694 to the GreenKnights.

The game was kicked off by Tranmere Rovers Chairman Mark Palios and ended with a pitch invasion as friends and family ran on to congratulate the participants.

It was an attempt to get into the record books, but also to fundraise for the Lee Knight Foundation (LKF), the charitable arm of the Tranmere Rovers Disabled Supporters Association.

As well as complete the gruelling challenge, a lot of money has been raised for the LKF which will be used to further improve the facilities for disabled supporters at Prenton Park.
