Futsal champions honoured

Champions York City Futsal were given a special guard of honour by their Liverpool opponents at the weekend.

The Minstermen had already wrapped up the National League North Division Two title for a second consecutive season following a thrilling 5-5 home draw with Tranmere Rovers seven days earlier.

As a show of respect, City's players were warmly applauded by their opponents while skipper Daniel Pedras led them out on Sunday evening.

In terms of the action itself, the visitors went on to take control following an even first-half that finished level at 2-2, eventually running out as 7-4 victors in Birkenhead.

That marked an eleventh triumph in twelve attempts this season for the undefeated runaway champions, who now have just a couple of games remaining.

Meanwhile, in the two other fixtures played at the weekend, Derby retain second place in the table after defeating bottom club Nottingham Trent 10-2 in the East Midlands derby.

They remain a point ahead of Tranmere, who accounted for Manchester Adademy 8-5, while Super League-bound York's advantage at the top is still a massive eight points.
