Daily TelegraphIsabella ecstatic about making the Australian futsal team after only three months of competitionby
Lawrence MachadoJanuary 25, 2017ISABELLA Williams does not do things by half: when she was fundraising for MS Readthon while a student at Riverstone’s St John’s Primary, she raised more than $3,000 to be among the top fundraisers in NSW and Australia for the charity initiative.
Now she has taken the same dedication to futsal with remarkable results and has been fast tracked for the Australian youth team to tour England and Spain later this year.
To say the Schofields footballer is surprised at the rapid progress of her fledging career is an understatement.
“I cannot still believe it and am stunned that I have been chosen,” said Isabella, who is now on a fundraising campaign for the tour.
“I am still processing the news as I never thought it would happen to me (being picked for Australia).
“I have been playing indoor football since I was six but only began competitive futsal last September with the Western Wolves up in Hawkesbury.
“I was then chosen for NSW City West team which competed at the Under-15s Nationals at Penrith earlier this month.”
Thanks to her skills, Isabella went on to represent an higher age group, the youth squad, at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium, South Windsor, from January 12-14.
And even though her team did not make the finals, the 15-year-old caught the eye of the selectors who expect her to do well with the Australian team on their twin tours of England and Spain from November 22-December 9.
The St John Paull II Catholic College student also plays football, netball and participates in Little Athletics but has excelled in futsal.
Isabell topped the scoring charts in her age group in the club with 27 goals last season.
“Since the team comes from all over Australia, we will only meet for the first time when we board the flight and then have our first training together overseas,” Isabell said.
