Jakarta GlobePSSI Sends Indonesian Team for AFF Futsal ChampionshipJakarta. The Indonesian Football Association, or PSSI, hosted the national futsal team on Tuesday evening (17/01) before sending the players off to Bangkok for the 2016 Asean Football Federation's Futsal Championship, which has been postponed to Jan. 23.
The most prestigious biannual futsal tournament in Southeast Asia was initially scheduled for October last year, but Thailand had to postpone the event to observe national mourning after the passing of King Bhumibol.
"Futsal is also important for us as we're hungry for medals, so Indonesia has to win this championship," PSSI chairman Edy Rahmayadi said on the association's official website.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's futsal team coach Andri Irawan believes his players can make it to the top spot.
"We're confident about our capabilities, despite strong competition among participants," Andri said.
Indonesia is in Group B, along with Laos, Malaysia and Myanmar. Group A consist of Thailand, East Timor and Brunei Darussalam.
Vietnam and Singapore have withdrawn from the competition.
Indonesia won the 2010 AFF Futsal Championship, when Thailand did not participate in the tournament.
