Jarrard PotterFUTSAL: Players from Grafton and Maclean will take on some of the best junior futsal players in the country when North Coast Futsal Under 14s team plays in the Futsal Nationals competition in Melbourne, which starts on Friday.
Coach Renan Fenerich said this was the first time North Coast Futsal has entered a team into the national competition, and off the back of another strong season in the North Coast Futsal Premier League competition he was confident the team would perform well.
"We've been training all year around, and we're going to do the best we can,” he said.
"There will be some really good teams from different states which will really test us.
"Everyone has learnt a lot from the competition, and it's an amazing opportunity for our local kids.
"They're all very excited to be a part of it.
"For some of them it was their first time on a plane as well, so the whole experience will be really new and exciting for them.”
Joshua Paterson, Jack Wujcik, Torin Leek and Eilish Bender, from Grafton and Shanyn Hammond and Ethan Piper, from Maclean, were selected in the squad.
"We put together this group of players that are part of the representative programs in Coffs Harbour and Grafton,” Fenerich said.
Fenerich said the competition starts tomorrow, with the final to be held on Tuesday.
