Shankhamul, Samakhusi to vie for title

KATHMANDU - Shankhamul Futsal and Samakhusi Futsal are set to vie in the summit clash of the ongoing Red Bull National Futsal League. Despite losing the second leg of semifinal to Tahachal Futsal 7-2 on Friday, Sankhamul progressed to the final by aggregate of 11-8. Shankhamul had defeated Tahachal 9-1 in the first leg played on Tuesday.

Sunil Basnet scored a hat-trick for Tahachal while Sujit Budhathoki netted twice. Similarly, Bishal Gurung and Anil Tamang notched one goal each for winning side. Sher Bahadur Thapa Magar and Biplav Dhwaj Shah scored one goal for the finalist. Tahachal's goalkeeper Bishal Gurung was declared the man-of-the-match.

The final between Shankhamul and Samakhusi is scheduled for January 7.

Shankhamul win, enter the final

Shankhamul lost 7-2 against Tahachal on Friday but still made it to the final of the Red Bull National Futsal League with an 11-8 aggregate.

Tahachal had lost the first leg of their semi-finals 9-1 away to Shankhamul and needed a victory margin of nine goals at their home. They were right on track after Sunil Basnet struck a hat-trick and Sujit Budhathoki scored twice but Sher Bahadur Thapa and Biplav Dhoj Shah replied to leave Tahachal with a Herculean task.

Bishal Gurung and Anil Basnet also scored a goal each for Tahachal. Goalkeeper Bishal Gurung of Tahachal was named man-of-the-match. Shankhamul will join Samakhushi in the final slated for January 7.

Samakhushi had defeated Kickoff 6-5 on aggregate in double legged semi-final after winning the first leg 4-2 before losing the second game 3-2. The tournament is so far the biggest in terms of Nepali futsal with the champions assured of one million rupees.

The runners-up will get home Rs 500,000, while the best player and goalkeeper will get Rs 50,000 apiece. A total of 16 teams from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur had participated in the tournament and divided into two pools. The top four teams had m ade it to the double legged quarter-finals.

Shankamul enter final

Shankhamul Futsal advanced to the final of the Red Bull Futsal League here today.

Shankhamul defeated Tahachal Futsal 11-8 in aggregate despite losing 7-2 in the second leg match of the semi-final on Friday. Shankhamul had won the first leg match 9-1.

Sunil Basnet completed a hat-trick for Tahachal, while Sujit Budhathoki netted two and Bishal Gurung and Anil Tamang scored one each. Sher Bahadur Thapa Magar and Biplav Dhoj Shah replied for Shankhamul. Tahachal goalkeeper Bishal Gurung was named the man-of-the-match.

Shankhamul Futsal will face Samakhusi Futsal in the championship match. The final is slated for January 7 next year. The biggest futsal tournament of the country is organised by AMA Events under the sponsorship of Red Bull. A total of 16 teams from the valley took part in the tournament played home-and-away format.

The winning team will received one million rupees, while the runners-up will get Rs 500,000. Likewise, the best player of the tournament and the best goalkeeper will earn Rs 50,000 each.
