Sun Star BaguioCaraa bound squad rule Barangay futsal cupTuesday, December 27, 2016Despite the holiday season, Baguio’s futsal squad remained busy the whole time in a bid to retain the over-all title in the upcoming Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association after topping the recently held Barangay Victoria Village Futsal Cup.
CARAA bound Baguio boys squad outclassed their rivals merging as champion in the men’s open category besting Pinsao which settled for second while Baguio City High School salvaged third place in the event hatched by Cordillera Goshenland Football Club (CGFC).
The ladies side meanwhile saw CGFC – A ruling the division while it’s team B saved for second place as Pinsao settled for third place. City High topped their respective rivals in the 17 – under boys division edging rival Quezon Hill A in a tightly contested championship match as Quezon Hill B came in third.
In the 17 – under girls division, Pinsao A pulled of a surprise to win the championship besting Quezon Hill and Pinsao B with both settling for second and third respectively. For leading her squad to the championship, Melorie Mogamog was named the most valuable player while Zyra Bon-as lead the cast of individual awards after being named the best goal keeper in 17 - under girls division while the best defender went to Kayla Nabus, as Nicole Corono took home the best striker plum. Keneth Bobiles received the most valuable player award in the 17 - under boys division with best goal keeper given to Denver Comesario while the best defender was Jon Dilinilia and best play maker going to Dominador Padcayan.
In the womens open, Aliya Malit bagged home the MVP honors while the best goal keeper went to Regina Aliping as Richel Pagaspas was named best defender with Eryl Lisdisen named the best playmaker. Jhion Galang meanwhile took home the MVP in the men’s division together with Bruce Malit as best goal keeper while the best defender went to Ravel Collado with Pablo Chawi named the as the best playmaker.
CGFC coach Aries Bocalan is hoping to popularize futsal not only in Baguio but also in nearby Benguet and other parts of the Cordillera as it can be played in indoor basketball courts and even on the street with a weighted ball.
