A new rooftop sports and recreation venue, the Skypark Arena Rooftop Sports Hub, was officially opened yesterday afternoon with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by national football captain Shahril Ishak.

The facility, which measures a total of 27m by 23m, is located at the top floor (level 5) of the Sime Darby Centre in Bukit Timah and boasts a Fifa Recommended 2-star artifical pitch.

In addition, the venue also features several other facilities such as an air-conditioned bistro, a foosball table and a Playstation 4 Pro.

Shahril expressed his belief that with more of such facilities opening up in Singapore, it will go a long way towards developing a football-playing culture in the country.

“We know that Singaporeans love football, but they enjoy watching it on television,” said Shahril.

“But when you have more futsal pitches and opportunities for people to play the game itself, they will love it more.

“You look at the facilities here at the Skypark Arena, and it appeals to more than just those who already play football on a regular basis and love the game.

“It will help attract families and friends here, and hopefully the love of the game will spread.”
