Wales win to set up England showdown

3 December 2016

Wales made it two wins out of two in the Futsal Home Nations Championship after a 5-2 victory over Scotland on Saturday.
The result means Wales will face England at Cardiff’s House of Sport on Sunday in a winner takes all contest (kick off 3.15pm).

After a 7-1 win over Northern Ireland on Friday in their opening game, Wales again got off to a fast start as Jonny Nelson fired the hosts ahead early on.

But Scotland came back into the game as Craig McLeish scored from the penalty spot before Dayle Robertson bundled the ball home from close range to give the visitors the lead.

However, Wales went into the half-time break ahead as Tyrrell Webbe equalised and Rico Zulkarnain smashed them ahead, before Webbe helped himself to his second and Wales’ fourth.

The second half proved an even contest as Scotland searched for a route back into the game – even missing late a penalty – but it was Wales who ran out 5-2 winners as Naim Arsan netted his first goal of the tournament to set up Sunday’s showdown against England.

In the day’s other game, England made it two wins out of two with a dominant 16-1 victory over Northern Ireland.

England – who hit nine past Scotland in their opening game – found themselves 5-0 up at half time thanks to goals from Agon Rexha, Raoni Medina, Jordan Edge, Luke Ballinger and Richard Ward.

But they went on to extend their lead even further in the second half as Ballinger grabbed his hat-trick, adding to a double from Toluwa Sotonye and further strikes from Medina, Rexha, Ward, Stuart Cook, Russell Goldstein, Liam Palfreeman and William Rooke.

Northern Ireland, however, never gave up and we rewarded for their efforts when Conor Glenholmes pulled a goal back.
