Ella kicking goals in futsal and soccer

Bendigo soccer followers, remember the name Ella Kirby.

The 13-year-old was born deaf and has cochlear implants, but she hasn’t let that stop her become a star with the round ball.

Kirby travels to Malayisa on Wednesday where she will represent her country in next week’s Borneo Cup futsal tournament in Kuching.

The Malaysian tour, which includes tournament warm-up matches in Sibu, brings together some of the best junior futsal players in the world.

Kirby earned her place in the Australian team after dominating for Victoria Country at this year’s national futsal titles.

She was the joint Golden Boot winner for the tournament and led Victoria Country to third place overall. She’s the only Victoria in the Australian squad to tour Malaysia.

When Kirby returns from the tour her focus will turn to soccer where has just been named in the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League under-14 boys representative squad.

Kirby would have been playing in the National Premier League Women competition, but an injury forced her to miss the trials.

Plan B was to try out alongside the boys for the BASL squad and she more than held her own.

The forward/attacking midfielder looks set to kick plenty more goals in 2017.
