Scott DonaldsonNovember 17 2016Queenstown Rovers midfield maestro Daniel De Souza has helped Southern United to the top of the National Futsal League ladder.
De Souza who is an accomplished outdoor football player in Southland's Donald Gray Cup, scored an amazing individual goal against Waikato - BOP to help the southern region's futsal team into a commanding position heading into the final stages of the national series.
He received a high ball deep in his own territory and then rounded several players before shooting a low shot to score the goal.
Southern picked up three impressive victories from their four matches, including a 9-3 win over defending champions Auckland at the National Series-Southern Division Hosting in Wellington.
They also tasted success over Wai-BOP and Hawke's Bay, and despite a 6-6 draw against Northern, the team sits in pole position on 25 competition points, courtesy of eight wins and a draw from 10 matches.
Wai-BOP sit six points back on 19 points, with Canterbury and Auckland holding the other playoff spots at this stage.
Queenstown's Brazilian pair of De Souza and Carlos Herrmann were a thorn in the side of the other teams as they collected 14 goals between them across the four matches recently.
The final stages of the competition take place in Auckland on December 9 to 11, with Southern facing the same four teams from the Wellington event, before semifinals and finals.
