6 Reasons to Train with a Futsal

Oct 31, 2016

Many of the top Brazilian soccer stars ever to play the game, like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Neymar credit their outstanding technical ability to their early introduction to the game of futsal.

For those that aren't familiar with the sport or the ball, futsal is a small-sided-game played with a smaller, heavier ball and is an outstanding avenue for developing well rounded, technical players interested in taking their game to the next level.

Here are 6 of the biggest reasons to train with a futsal.

1. Technical ability

There are few things better for developing your technicality than training with a futsal, because the ball is weighted, and smaller, each touch requires extreme precision and thought.

Using a futsal forces players to get into the zone of focused practices, you have to keep your head on the ball, consider each contact, and ensure that your passes are well-weighted and precise or they will not connect with a teammate.

2. Improve your Weaker Foot

Because the ball is heavier than a normal size 5, striking a futsal helps build the ankle muscles in your weaker foot and will make a big difference on the path towards becoming two-footed.

One simple practice technique is to juggle a futsal with your weaker foot, this will improve your all around lower-bod strength and core, and is a fairly low-cost, easy option for most players to pursue and add to a personal training regimen.

3. Increased Kicking Power

Your leg muscles need to be developed just like you would do in the gym curling a dumbbell for your biceps.

One way to ensure that you're building those muscles without compromising flexibility and dexterity is to use a futsal during practice sessions.

4. Creative Flair

Playing with a futsal requires a clean touch, but since the ball is heavier it is in some ways easier to control, that's why using a futsal is a great tool for practicing feints, scissors, step-overs, scoops, stalls, roulette's, and the like.

The legendary Brazilians we have all come to love and adore as they sport the badge of our favorite Club, tend to have honed their creative flair on the futsal courts and you can do the same if you start dreaming big.

5. Ability to Play in Tight Spaces

A futsal requires an intelligently designed first-touch, so you will be forced to become comfortable playing in tight spaces, which is why using futsals in your daily rondo is a great pairing.

Utilizing futsals in your possession game will help create players that can escape cooly from the most intense pressure.

6. Confidence on The Ball

The positives of training with a futsal are numerous, but the biggest reason for incorporating one into your training regiment is to improve your overall confidence level on the ball.

It has been proven that in a 90 minute game, many players only have the ball for 4-5 minutes total in an entire match. Make sure that you use those minutes wisely by training with a futsal, and become the next great maestro who is irresistible on the ball.
