Vietnam Net BridgeHCM City to host ASEAN Futsal Championship 201731/10/2016The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) unveiled on October 31 that Ho Chi Minh City has been selected to host the second of two futsal championships to be held next year.
The AFF will sponsor two Futsal tournaments in 2017. The first, the postponed 2016 edition of the Championship, will now be played in early January of 2017 at a yet unidentified venue.
Thailand had planned to host the 2016 Championship but was forced to cancel the tournament due to the passing of His Majesty King Bhumiphol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand.
Efforts to find a replacement venue were unsuccessful, said the AFF, so the event was pushed back to January 2017 to allow sufficient time to find an alternative venue.
In the meantime, the AFF has selected Vietnam as the venue for the second 2017 Championship, which has been set for November 1-22 in Ho Chi Minh City. The event will also serve as the qualifying round for the 2018 AFC Futsal Championship.
