October 5, 2016TAJ Maryska is gearing up to represent Australia after starring at last week’s 2016 national schools Futsal titles in Queensland.
Taj, of Matcham, had never been in a Futsal competition before he was asked to represent Northern NSW in the under-11 boys’ side against eight other teams from across Australia.
“I was playing soccer for my local rep team and they asked me to play in the Northern NSW team for the nationals,” he said.
He said he found the competition challenging.
“We played eight games and we got heaps tired,” he said.
While Northern NSW was knocked out in golden point in the semi-finals, Taj made an impression and was named in the All Star 5 at the presentation at the end of the competition.
“I was excited and happy,” he said of his selection.
“I got a T-shirt that says ‘All Star 5’.”
Taj was also chosen to represent Australia next year in Malaysia.
He is not just a talent with the ball at his feet, with Taj also playing Oztag at state and national championships.
Taj is a nominee for the 2016 NewsLocal Junior Sports Star awards. Nominations are open in the Sporting Spirit, Junior Sports Star, Service to Sport and Team Spirit categories.
The Junior Sports Star awards have Rebel as the major sponsor, along with SportsTG and Simonds Homes. For more information or to nominate someone you know, visit juniorsportsstar.com.au.
