SportsByte SunderlandWomen’s futsal team earn hard fought draw in Clash of the Minsters5/10/2016The Sunderland Women’s Futsal team earned a hard fought 3-3 draw in the Clash of the Minsters tie.
An entertaining game saw both sides create several good opportunities, but neither side could find a winner with both goalkeepers making some good saves.
It was York St John, however, that scored an early goal to take the lead. Despite the early blow, Sunderland came back at York, but could not find the back of the net.
A good spell of pressure from the hosts saw York’s keeper forced into making good back-to-back saves.
As the game became end-to-end, York managed to double their lead on the break away with a good finish.
The set back did not deter Sunderland, as they instantly replied from kick off to make the score 2-1.
Then came a bit of confusion. Sunderland had the ball in the back of the net, thinking they had equalised but the goal had been disallowed as the ball went in directly from a kick in.
After half time, York increased their advantage with a superb strike which gave Sunderland’s keeper no chance.
Yet again, however, Sunderland showed great fight and determination to strike back immediately after kick off.
They then applied a lot of pressure to York’s goal, managing to create a lot of opportunities, unlike earlier spells of pressure, this time they were able to find an equaliser to pull the game back to 3-3.
Both sides probably felt they deserved to win the match, but in the end a draw was probably a fair result.
