Five fire Albiceleste into semis

25 Sep 2016

Argentina ensured there will remain South American representation at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016 on the final day as they coasted into the last four with a 5-0 win over Egypt.

Egypt struggled to get any kind of foothold in the first half as Argentina had the North Africans pinned back, but they struggled to register anything meaningful on Gamal Abdelnaser’s goal. The breakthrough was coming, though.

Having completely outplayed the Egyptians in the first ten minutes, they got the rewards the statistics showed they deserved, with Pablo Taborda slotting in from a corner. While this setback set fire to the three-time African champions’ attacking desires, it was not long until they were two down.

This time it was Damian Stazzone whose name got on the scoresheet, seeing his free-kick cannon in off captain Mizo. Ibrahim Eika, via a fine ball from the unfortunate Pharaohs talisman, forced Nicolas Sarmiento into a smart stop while one-on-one, and although pace and directness became more infused in Egypt's game, end product was not.

And after the break Argentina charged clear and out of sight, again with another quick-fire double. This time it was Santiago Basile who capped off a delightful passing move before Leandro Cuzzolino tapped in simply from a corner.

The game was already a foregone conclusion when Gerardo Battistoni capped off the rout after good work from Alan Brandi, teeing up a semi-final with either Azerbaijan or Portugal.
