Fadhil YunusARBISYAM look on course in retaining the Futsal Piala Keputeraan title after sealing progress to the quarter-finals and will meet fellow futsal league rivals Pega Star at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex on Saturday.
The defending champions are still in contention after beating Wonderers 2-0 in the second round before surviving a 4-3 win in penalties against MS PDB in the round of 16.
In what has been billed a tournament of upsets, the so-called elite clubs and pre-tournament favourites Kota Junior and Shah United ‘A’ were stopped in their tracks.
The newly crowned Takaful Brunei Futsal Super League winners slipped to a 5-4 defeat in penalties to fellow league side Riz Fiz FT while Shah United were at the end of a 4-0 hammering by dark horses Red Butterfly.
With many widely tipped to provide genuine threat to the title contenders, Matahari also fell short in their quest after losing 2-1 in penalties to PES.
PES’s reward for qualifying to the quarterfinals which was confirmed after eliminating First Five will be a tie against Waza Under-19 who stunned league outfit Street United in a 1-0 victory.
After dispatching Shah United ‘A’ from the competition, Red Butterfly made light work of Giovani ‘B’ in a 2-0 win to set up an encounter against Riz Fiz FT.
JS FT will also be in the top eight after edging past Sahabat FC 4-3 in penalties and then winning 1-0 against GG FT.
JS FT will meet Giovani ‘A’ in the quarterfinals after the latter eliminated Creativol with a 1-0 victory.
The co-chairman of the Futsal Piala Keputeraan 2016 has informed all managers whose team qualified for the quarters to attend on Saturday with the semi-final and finals to be played subsequently.
All teams involved must be present 30 minutes before the commencement of the quarterfinals which is slated at 7pm sharp.
The tournament will culminate with a prize presentation ceremony shortly after the completion of the final with which this year’s winners will be announced.
Arbisyam won the competition last year after beating Ikerab FC 1-0 and recently finished third in the Takaful Brunei Futsal Super League behind eventual winners Kota Junior and Shah United.
