Futsal Club UK bringing the samba-style sport to Harlow

September 20, 2016

How did players such as Ronaldo, Messi, Iniesta, Coutinho, Xavi and Ronaldinho develop the skills that set them apart from other players?

What did they play as children that has made them become the greatest players in the world?

The answer is futsal.

The exciting indoor five-a-side game played by millions of children and adults across the world is the only one recognised by FIFA and UEFA.

And now Harlow are getting the chance to join in the fun as a new club is coming to the town.

Having started in Bishop's Stortford, Futsal Club UK have expanded and have started sessions at Burnt Mill Academy in First Avenue.

Futsal Club UK was set up by Kevan Miles in Stortford, while the Harlow sessions are looked after by Gavin Earle.

Earle said: "We provide a fun and fantastic environment for children of all ages and abilities to learn and play the sport of futsal.

"We are looking to provide every child the opportunity to train, play in a team and enter festivals and competitions.

"Harlow has seven or so different football clubs, so we were just looking to find the right space.

"The good thing about the club as well is that we are completely independent from any 11-a-side club, so kids can come and play whoever they are attached to.

"It is available to all abilities and we are really looking forward to getting going."

Futsal has been credited by many of the world's best players and coaches in developing an array of skills that makes all children better players both on and off the pitch.

The nature of the sport places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high opposition pressure and limited space to manoeuvre.

It creates players who are more comfortable with the ball, make decisions more quickly and gives the players a greater number of opportunities to practice passing, dribbling, turning, shielding, receiving, ball control, one-on-ones and shooting.

Goalkeepers are a key part of the game and will have more shots to save, more decisions to make under pressure, increased distribution of the ball and are important in attacking and counter-attacking to out number the opposition.

Futsal Club UK is providing sessions for all ages on Monday nights.

School Years 5 and 6 (U10 and 11) will be at 6-7pm, while Years 7 and 8 (U12 and U13) will be 7-8pm.

Then the final session will take place between 8-9pm for Years 9 to 11 (U14-16), all at the sports hall at Burnt Mill Academy.

For more information and how your child can get involved then contact the club at www.futsalclub.co.uk.

As well as Stortford and Harlow, the club are also starting up in Saffron Walden.
