Spain beats Morocco 4-3, will face Kazakhstan in Futsal knockout round

BUCARAMANGA – Spain beat Morocco 4-3 at the FIFA Futsal World Cup, booking a spot in the round of 16 against Kazakhstan.

Spain finished group play on Sunday in Group F with no losses and nine points, with many observers picking the team to win the championship.

Azerbaijan, with four points in group play, also advanced to the final 16 after tying Iran in a match played in Medellin.

Spain will play Kazakhstan on Wednesday in Medellin in what will be a rematch of the 2016 Eurocup.

Kazakhstan blew out the Solomon Islands 10-0 in Group E action at Medellin's Coliseo Ivan de Bedout.

The schedule for this week's round of 16 is now set.

On Tuesday, Russia and Vietnam will play in Medellin, while host Colombia and Paraguay will square off in Cali.

The next day, Spain and Kazakhstan will play in Medellin; Brazil will take on Iran in Bucaramanga; and Portugal will clash with Costa Rica in Cali.

On Thursday, Argentina will take on Ukraine in Bucaramanga; Thailand will play Azerbaijan in Medellin; and Italy will play Egypt in Cali.
